welcome to our beautiful city. tell us now, how exactly did you end up in sydney ? the united states was getting a little too boring for me. too much of the same old, same old. plus, the government was constantly breathing down my neck, trying to get me to work faster. so i decided a change would be nice. what is the most importantant thing that happened to you ? my older brother, douglas, or dougie, died when i was twelve and he was only seventeen. this was more than just the death of my brother, he was my hero, my idol, my best friend. and all of a sudden, he was gone. and all just for some drugs. idiot. now, tell us a bit about your background. my parents got married at an appropriate age and had my brother, douglas, pretty soon after they were married. they adored him, doted on him, and life was good. my father began work as a lobbyist in d.c. and my mom became the standard trophy wife. my dad quickly rose to be more and more prominent, and so my mother swallowed her dreams and was a good wife for him. five years after dougie was born, they had me. life was good for the first twelve years of my life. i was a cute kid and very manipulative even from the beginning, so i was rarely denied anything i wanted.
then when i was twelve, my brother died of an overdose on oxycontin. it was horrific news that shattered my world, as well as my mom's. she took it hard and committed suicide three days later, leaving me alone with the man i blamed for their deaths, my father. i became moody and brooding and practically ignored everyone else around me. by the time i was thirteen, i had discovered computers, which were the first things i had encountered that had a mental capacity close to mine, so i threw myself into working with them. i graduated early at sixteen, attended college at brown for four years and have just recently graduated. i own my own computer programming company, working for the government and other private contractors. everyone has dreams and plans for the future, and you're surely no exception. tell us a bit about them, if you don't mind. make my company, anderson tech, successful. become richer than my father. what is a normal day like for you ? wake up at about six in the morning. go for a five or six mile jog. come back and shower, then read the newspaper and have breakfast. then i usually work for the rest of the day, occasionally stopping for food. some nights i go out, most times i don't. in bed usually by midnight, although some nights i have to stay up for video conferences with companies overseas in different time zones. now, time for the last question. name three things you can't live without ? my computer, scotch, the newspaper
hello, wl&c. this is jill and i'm seventeen. i'll be using christopher sylvest as a play by for my character, who is a local. oh, by the way, you can reach me via pm. and well, that's about it !
digits all ran together on the screen before him. suddenly the white numbers made no sense to him and didn’t matter. in annoyance, cooper ran a rough hand through his tousled light brown hair, trying to force his bright blue eyes to make sense out of the codes in front of his face. but he couldn’t. cooper hated this point, the point he had reached far too many times where he had been working too hard, been working too long, and his brain just overheated. that’s right, even his brain, as magnificent and proficient as it was, could be overworked. that was what frustrated him about himself, that he couldn’t just keep going and going forever. it made his talents seem occasionally…inefficient. in a vain attempt to regain the focus in his vision, cooper rubbed his eyes and glanced at the books around him, taking in all the obscure titles, such as the tales of a self-taught mechanic and the silence of the deep blue. most of the books back here were outcasts, left unused by the student population of loomis, and in cooper’s opinion, under appreciated. but then again, when had the public ever been able to realize a good thing?
something out of the corner of his eye disrupted his cynical musings. he didn’t glance over right away and instead tried to stare at the computer screens one last time, hoping that his eyes’ small break had made them able to focus on the codes. but it hadn’t and his gaze quickly shifted to what had caught his attention. and as he looked, damn, was she worth catching his attention. passing through the library appeared what he could only classify as an unusually gorgeous girl with jet black hair, perfect curves and legs that just begged to be wrapped around somebody. he hadn’t seen her around before, but that wasn’t a surprise. cooper knew few of his classmates, he had only been at school for three days after all. and most of that time had not been spent mingling with his fellow students. cooper had never really had the patience or the need to put up with people, so he just generally disregarded them until he needed them.
but as he closed his eyes in exhaustion, there was one that would not be disregarded. the image that flashed into his mind, replacing all those familiar digits and codes, was of the girl that had just passed him. it wasn’t like cooper to get this distracted, but then again, a girl like that didn’t float past him every day. a small smile touched the very edges of his lips at his thoughts. floated. yes, that was a very appropriate way to describe how she had moved. she didn’t do any of that cumbersome walk or ridiculous strut that many other girls her age performed. instead she had seemed to just glide through the aisle way. cooper mused over that for a moment or two, trying to decide if this girl really was that beautiful, or if he was just looking for a distraction. he came to the conclusion that to be disrupting his thoughts as much as she was, she must have been something different but his exhaustion and boredom likely heightened her appearance. however, he finally decided that that was inconclusive, and he’d need another look, possibly a conversation to make up his mind. and since he wasn’t really having much luck with the encryption…
that was all he needed to force himself to stand, taking a moment to stretch the muscles in his legs that had grown tight with stress and disuse. he bent over and clicked and tapped a few things into each screen, effectively locking the laptops until he returned. he folded them into their cases and then stowed them on one of the bookshelves, not too worried about them being found. he was fairly certain that he and the girl were the only ones to come back here at all that day, so the threat of theft did not hang heavy. giving one final glance in goodbye to his workspace, cooper ran a hand through his hair and started walking, unsure of where to find her but certain he would.
cooper’s body and build was not that of what you would expect from a nerd. then again, cooper was not just any nerd. he was more of a super nerd. even still, his body further defied the nerd stereotype. he could never be mistaken for out of shape and the tone on his muscles was visible to any who looked. many showed surprise when he would cross his arms and bicep muscles would appear or of his unexpected strength. the entirety of cooper’s body was in shape, well toned and fit. definitely not your average nerd. and beyond that, he had a face that set him apart from practically every other boy. his face was a mixture of oxymorons, strong but soft, young but hard. his face had almost a boyish look to it, often adding to the illusion of him being younger and also casting him a sense of innocence he did not deserve. on the other hand, he had high and prominent cheek bones, pouting lips and bright blue eyes that would not be denied. cooper was not a boy you would soon forget, and barely anybody did.
yet he didn’t consider any of that as he padded softly down the aisles of the library, wondering when he would chance upon this unnamed girl who had captured his attention, and now his time. finally he found her. she was nestled upon one of the several plush leather reading chairs that the school had placed in this particular back section of the library. a quick moment was spent on his bright blues taking her in for a second time and deciding that she was worth the trip over to see, however small it was. then with a small smile bringing the edges of his lips upwards and his eyes twinkling, he stepped forward and corssed his arms, his eyes on her. he spoke lightly, making the words crisp but whimsical.
you’re in my seat.
